A Historic Campus in the Heart of the River Valley
The IUFRO 2027 conference will be held at the University of Alberta's campus in the heart of Edmonton. Founded in 1911 with the construction of Athabasca Hall, the campus blends the historic with the cutting edge, its 50 city blocks and abundant green spaces shaped by more than a century of academic life.
The campus sits on the edge of the North Saskatchewan River valley, the largest urban green space on the continent, 22 times larger than New York's Central Park. Delegates can step out of sessions and into a network of river valley trails, ravines, and forested parkland.
An Urban Setting on the Doorstep of the Rockies
The conference location offers convenient access to modern meeting facilities, on-campus accommodations, and nearby hotels, making it easy for participants to stay, learn, and network in one location. Edmonton is directly accessible via international flights, with daily arrivals from Vancouver, Toronto, and other major Canadian cities. The city is also home to leading forestry research institutions, government agencies, and industry partners, creating a unique environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
As a gateway to the Canadian Rockies, Edmonton puts Jasper National Park within reach for pre- or post-conference travel, a chance to experience one of Canada's most iconic protected landscapes while exploring the very forests that inspire much of our research and stewardship efforts.
